Working a lot, travelling a lot, re-furbishing a house a lot. Playing with Linux a little or not at all. There are some constants in life. Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha continues to update. Unity continues to produce a blank desktop on two machines. At least I'm not alone. Mr Alan Pope can't get it working either... RC

Freecom DVB-T Resurrected

Having been away for a few days refurbishing a house, my packing included the Freecom DVB-T USB receiver. I gave up on this device after Ubuntu Hardy when various kernel updates made the installation of firmware such a nightmare it was no longer worth the effort.  But it's back! Ubuntu 10.10 now includes a stack of DVB firmware and once I got to grips with the DVB scan utilities , I got it working again on the Compaq. It's a low-powered device, of course, so issue of a decent TV aerial remains. Now my issue I getting it to work on the Dell where the modules refuse to compile... RC
